Photographer
My name is Spiros Loukopoulos and I think of myself as an amateur photographer. I was born in Patras - Greece the year of 1985. I moved to Copenhagen, Denmark in 2015. I have a degree as a Civil Engineer and I have worked in that field for some years but now I’m working in the foods and drinks Industry, operating street food markets and often designing bars and cultural spaces.
I have studied painting and freehand sketching from a very young age starting with hagiography at the age of 9 and I have experimented with many different forms and mediums of expression through the years. Graffiti was a big part of my life; I have painted on all kinds of surfaces for several years before I settle (for now) that photography is the medium that helps me express myself best. That was about 10 years ago with probably a long way to go.
A two part visual lecture built around personal street photography. The first part presents a selection of black and white work previously published, focusing on observation, structure, light and human presence across familiar environments. The second part introduces entirely new material from a recent trip to New York, widely regarded as the capital of street photography. This work remains unpublished and will be revealed for the first time at the festival. The presentation contrasts known visual language with fresh instinctive responses to one of the most intense urban stages in the world, highlighting continuity, evolution and personal interpretation through the street.
